Wi-Fi Survey Results In

The online survey and extensive informal consultations with university stakeholder groups are now completed. The results are as follows:

Participating groups overwhelmingly supported the installation of WiFi on campus

NEXT STEPS
PPG has approved a proposal to install WiFi in a sustainable and affordable way. The proposal calls for a limited, phased installation in select public spaces such as the Agora, the Library, and the main and residence cafeterias. Discussions are also being planned to address the issue of WiFi in the classroom. Installation timelines will be announced shortly.

Water Shutdown in RC/SC/UC

There will be a water shutdown in the Regional Centre, Student Centre, and University Centre on Sunday, November 14 from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.

Physical Plant apologizes for the inconvenience but this is required to facilitate the installation of a new water valve. Any questions, please contact Diane Michieli-Pedwysocki at 343-8962.

Shutdown of ATAC Data Centre: November 13

This weekend, Physical Plant will address issues related to an ongoing problem with an air cooling unit in the ATAC Data Centre. While this work is taking place, TSC will be shutting down several services in the ATAC Data Centre for up to eight hours effective 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13.

Please note: During the shutdown, access to email may be unavailable or intermittent, affecting user access from all on- and off-campus locations.

Services to be shut down include:
  • Datatel (Myinfo)
  • Chinook
Services that may be affected:
  • WebCT
  • Moodle
  • Sunshine
  • Inukshuk (Library Server)
  • Web Servers (including Lakehead U homepage and Course Calendar)
  • Services relying on Active Directory or LDAP authentication such as Thin Clients, Network Drives, and Lab Computers
Network, Internet, and IP Phones are not expected to be affected by this maintenance window.

All services are expected to be restored by 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13.
