Security Services advises all University staff, faculty and students to stay off the ice on Lake Tamblyn and the portion of the McIntyre River that weaves through our campus.

When the ice is deemed safe for use, we will send an advisory.


2020 Teaching Innovation Award – Nomination deadline Friday, Nov. 15

Nominations are now open for Lakehead University's new Teaching Innovation Award, which recognizes the development and/or implementation of innovative pedagogical practices and technologies.

The award is given for the development and/or implementation of a specific pedagogical innovation, and may be awarded to an individual or a team. Instructors, librarians, and staff engaged in the delivery and support of teaching at Lakehead are eligible to be nominated for innovations developed and/or implemented at Lakehead University.

Board of Governors Meeting - Friday, Nov. 22

The next meeting of the Lakehead University Board of Governors will be held on Friday, November 22, in the Senate Chambers, UC1001 (Thunder Bay campus) and in room OA2001D (Orillia campus) beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the open session portion of the meeting. The agenda will be posted to the University Governance section of the website approximately one week prior to the meeting.

The 2019-20 Board of Governors membership and the membership of Board Standing Committees can also be found online here.

Payroll Year-end 2019 - Early cut-offs

All payrolls for the year 2019 will be completed by Friday, December 13, 2019 to allow for system year-end closing and the set-up and processing of the first pay of 2020 before the university closure between December 24, 2019 and January 1, 2020 inclusive.

If you have any outstanding payroll-related items to be paid or adjusted in 2019, please forward to, or contact Human Resources or Payroll no later than Thursday, December 5, 2019.  Items received after this date cannot be guaranteed to be paid in 2019 and may not be included in calendar year 2019 for T4 reporting purposes.

A detailed schedule including cut-offs for timecard entry and approval can be found here - 2019 Lakehead University Payroll Year-end Cut-off Schedule.  Payroll related items received after the dates on the cut-off schedule are not guaranteed payment in 2019.

2019 Holiday Closure Dates

Please be advised that Lakehead University’s 2019 Holiday Closure period will be as follows: University offices will be closed beginning Tuesday, December 24th, and re-opening on Thursday, January 2, 2020.

Employees are advised to contact their supervisors with any questions.
