2019 holiday closures


Please be advised that Lakehead University’s 2019 Holiday Closure period will be as follows. University offices will be closed beginning Tuesday, Dec. 24, and re-opening on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020.

Employees are advised to contact their supervisors with any questions.

Notice of Meeting: Professional Pension Plan and Lakehead University Employee Pension Plan

The Professional Pension Plan and Lakehead University Employee Pension Plan meeting will take place on Friday, Dec. 6.

The Pension Board for the Professional Plan and the Advisory Committee for the Lakehead University Employee Pension Plan (LUEPP) continuously monitor the operations and performance of Lakehead University’s pension plans.

All members of both pension plans are invited to attend a presentation by investment advisor Proteus Performance on Friday, Dec. 6 starting at 9 a.m. in OA 2005 (via videoconference).

Investment managers will provide an update on market performance and the market outlook for the near future.

Schedule

  • 9 - 10 a.m., Quarterly Performance Review - Ryan Kuruliak, VP, Proteus Performance
  • 10 - 11 a.m., Letko Brosseau
  • 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., Dimensional Fund Advisors
  • 12 - 1 p.m., Lunch
  • 1 - 4 p.m., Joint Pension Meeting

Guests are also welcome to attend the regular pension meeting at 1 p.m., although the Pension Board and Advisory Committee reserve the right to go “in camera” at any time.

Teaching Support Award nomination deadline is Dec. 15

Nominations are now open for the new Teaching Support Award. Lakehead University’s Teaching Support Award recognizes the support provided for teaching by employees of the university. One award will be given annually.

Call for nominations for Prestigious Fellow of the University

Lakehead University's Board of Governors is seeking nominations for Fellow of the University, which recognizes people who have contributed to the growth, development, welfare and well-being of Lakehead University.

The nomination deadline for Fellow of the University is Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Call for nominations for 2019 Distinguished Researcher Awards

The Distinguished Researcher Awards are the highest honour conferred by Lakehead University for research and scholarly activity. Each year, if there are qualified candidates who are nominated, the award may be given to three full-time Lakehead University professors, one in the social sciences and humanities, one in the natural sciences and engineering, and one in health research.

Nominations for the 2019 Distinguished Researcher Awards are due on Friday, Dec. 20 no later than 4:30 p.m.

Nominations are to be submitted to Dr. Kunle Akingbola, Chair of the 2019-2020 Senate Research Committee, c/o the Senate Research Committee’s Administrative Officer, Allison Whately-Doucet at ea.vpri@lakeheadu.ca. Specific guidelines and application requirements for this award can be found on our website.
