Message from the Office of the Provost

To our Lakehead University Community,

I would like to acknowledge the compassion, caring, and quick response of the Iranian Cultural Association, the Iranian-Canadian community, the Thunder Bay community, and each of you who organized and participated in the gathering in our Agora, last Saturday, for a community vigil that allowed us to support each other as a community and to recognize the tragic loss of lives in the airline crash that claimed 176 people, many of whom were members of other Canadian universities.

I would also like to thank LUSU Orillia for organizing a vigil at the Orillia Opera House, Wednesday evening, that was also open to the public.

These gatherings, as well as Canadian universities' national moment of silence on Wednesday afternoon, brought us together and reminded us that we are all connected.

Please be aware that Lakehead University offers many counselling and support services to its students, staff, and faculty.

You are not alone.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Barnett
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
Lakehead University
