STEM Teaching Recruitment - Thursday, Feb. 13

Opportunities in Science, Technology and Mathematics focused teachables are always in demand. Students currently enrolled in programs with the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies are invited to an orientation session hosted by the Faculty of Education.

Attention Students: Do you have an awesome prof?

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Contribution to Teaching Awards, a student nominated award that recognizes instructors who are outstanding teachers.

If you have an instructor who has had an impact on your Lakehead experience, consider nominating them for this award by Saturday, Feb. 15.

To submit your nomination, see the online submission process on the Teaching Commons web page.

Following your nomination, your instructor will be asked to submit a teaching dossier to the Senate Teaching and Learning Committee, describing how they meet the evaluation criteria found here.

The selection committee will review nominees for eligibility and their dossiers for evidence of high levels of teaching performance. The recipients of the awards are expected to be announced and acknowledged at Senate in the Fall of 2020.

2020 LUWSP-SS: Portal Open to Lakehead Employers

The Lakehead University Work Study Program (LUWSP-SS) provides full-time employment to eligible undergraduate students during the spring/summer. These positions provide students with a valuable opportunity to work with, and be mentored by, Lakehead University faculty and staff.

The subsidy will cover up to $2250 in wages and payroll deductions and is based on 480 hours and 16 weeks worked (30 hrs/wk for 16 weeks).

Employers may complete a Job Request application by logging in as an “Employer” or “Staff & Faculty” via the MySuccess Portal for the month of February annually. Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered as space permits.

TSC Maintenance – Service Interruption (filecluster) - Feb. 14 to 17

The Technology Services Centre will be performing maintenance between 5 pm on Friday, Feb. 14 to 8 am on Monday, Feb. 17, to address current issues with the university's main file share.

Access to personal or departmental shares and files stored on the filecluster will be unavailable during this time. Users may be required to reboot their systems to re-connect to their shares after this outage.

Faculty and Staff Food Bank Challenge - Feb. 17 to March 6

Lakehead University Community Council along with the LUSU Food Bank are once again sponsoring the annual Faculty & Staff Food Bank Challenge.

It runs from Monday, Feb. 17 thru to Friday, March 6, with collection of items taking place in the LUSU Boardroom on February 28 and March 6 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

TSC Network Maintenance - Tuesday, Feb. 18

TSC will be performing required maintenance to the campus network services on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 7 - 11 pm.  Internet, phone and wireless services may be intermittent during this time. This outage affects both the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses.

Senate Standing Committee Faculty Nominations - deadline Thursday, Feb. 27

The Senate Nominations Committee is welcoming nominations from full-time faculty members at the Orillia and Thunder Bay campuses to fill upcoming vacancies on the Senate Standing Committees.

Nominations are being accepted for the Award to Staff for Outstanding Performance and/or Contributions. This award recognizes and rewards outstanding performance and contributions to the University by a non-faculty employee.
